On the Uniqueness of Solution of Magnetostatic Vector‐potential Problems by Three‐dimensional Finite‐element Methods

In this paper, particular attention is paid to the impact of finite‐element approximation on uniqueness and to approximations implicit in finite element formulations from the uniqueness requirements standpoint. It is also shown that the flux density is unique without qualifications. The theoretical and numerical uniqueness of the magnetic vector potential in three‐dimensional problems is also given. This analysis is restricted to linear, isotropic media with Dirichlet Boundary conditions. As an interesting consequence of this analysis it is shown that, under usual conditions adopted in obtaining three‐dimensional finite‐element solutions, it is not necessary to specify div Ā in order that Ā be uniquely defined

Reducing Early Neonatal Mortality in Nigeria—The Solution

The West African nation of Nigeria seems to have run out of ideas on how their neonatal mortality rate may be lowered. This situation has become dare as the country could not make any significant progress even with the great supports of the last 10 years of Millennium Development Goal. Presently, one in every two deceased child under 5 years of age in Nigeria is a neonate. Literature reveals that most of these deceased neonates are classified preterm or low birthweight, of which nearly four in five must die within first 7 days. This clearly identified the categories and stages of highest mortality; however, it is disappointing that the authorities of the Nigerian health care system have for too long been unable to devise a solution for the neonates. Probably, inadequacy of climatic and cultural compatibilities might partly be responsible for the failure of their current conventional ideas and technologies—these being predominantly imported. Yet, there seems to be lack of interest in some home-grown unconventional ideas that have achieved the needed reduction at few centers. In this chapter, we present the unconventional approaches and encourage across-the-nation translation of the applications to achieve accelerated end to this situation

Use of Bamboo and Earth Materials in Construction for the Provision of Affordable Building Structures for Sustainable Development at Kuje Area Council, Abuja

The study was carried out on the use of bamboo and earth materials in building construction in provision of affordable housing at Kuje area council Abuja. The purpose of the study was to determine the status of the use of bamboo and earth materials in construction at Kuje area council Abuja, identifying the factors limiting the use of bamboo and earth materials in construction at Kuje area council Abuja, examine the strategies that will improve the use of bamboo and earth materials in construction at Kuje area council Abuja. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A population of 80 respondents, comprising of 20 engineers and 60 craftsmen was used for the study. A structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher and was used as an instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated by three lecturers in the department of industrial and technology education, federal university of technology Minna. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while t-test statistic was used to test three hypotheses at 0.05level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there are limitations in the use of bamboo for building construction in the Kuje Area Council. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the use of bamboo and earth materials in building construction should be introduced as part of the curriculum for construction education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in order to sensitize the students to their potential uses and benefits. The government should employ a policy of adapting bamboo and earth materials that require minimal amounts of capital and foreign exchange and makes use of available raw materials and skills in small-scale operations and suggestion were also made for further research works

The Effect of Social Isolation on the Mental Health of International Students

This paper looks into how social isolation affects international college students mental health. An increase in international students studying at colleges and universities abroad can be attributed to increased global mobility over the previous few decades. Because of this, these students struggle in certain ways to fit into their new academic and social surroundings. Among these difficulties, social isolation among overseas students has been recognized as a major issue. This essay will investigate how social isolation affects the mental health of international college students by drawing on existing studies. The various types of social isolation will be covered in the essay along with how they may affect mental health. It will also be looked at whether factors like linguistic difficulties, cultural shock, prejudice, and discrimination contribute to social isolation among overseas students. In light of the hazards to mental health posed by social isolation among international students, this presentation will offer some potential solutions. The findings of the inquiry will be utilized to create solutions that can assist overseas students in reducing the detrimental impacts of social isolation on their mental health. Compared to other groups, college students’ mental health has not been adequately researched, even though social isolation can be an emotionally and mentally damaging experience. The paper will focus on the various mental health impacts that international college students experience such as depression, anxiety, and long-term psychological harm. An analysis of existing literature on the topic, interviews with international college students, and the mental health resources available to this population are also discussed. The main findings of the research show that international college students living in a foreign country experience significant levels of social isolation due to language barriers and cultural differences

Effect of Different Sources of Heat on Nutritional Composition of Tilapia Fish (Oreochromis niloticus)

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of traditional smoking methods on fresh tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus). For this purpose, proximate, mineral and amino acid compositions of tilapia fish smoked with sawdust, rice bran, melon husk and electric oven (control) heat treatments were determined using standard analytical technique. The results showed that crude protein content (%) ranged between 55.10 to 64.16% with the highest value recorded in sample smoked with rice bran heat treatment while crude fat had the highest value (18.10%) also in rice bran smoked sample. Sodium was found to be more abundant in all the samples (5.75 – 10.10 mg/100g) compared with magnesium (5.45 – 9.15 mg/100g), potassium (4.55 – 6.45 mg/100g) and phosphorus (4.70 – 6.00 mg/100g) while the least abundant mineral was chromium (0.05 – 0.15 mg/100g). The harmful metals such as cadmium and lead were not at detectable range of atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The amino acid profile revealed that only Oreochromis niloticus fish sample smoked with sawdust enhanced the contents of total amino acid (TAA), total essential amino acid (TEAA) and total sulphur amino acid (TSAA) by 3.77, 3.95 and 7.03%, respectively while melon husk and rice bran heat treatments reduced TAA, TEAA and TSAA. The limiting amino acid (LAA) for all the samples with different heat treatments was Ile except sample smoked with rice bran which has Val as LAA. Generally, all the smoked samples contained nutritionally useful quantities of total essential amino acids. Keywords: Oreochromis niloticus, agricultural wastes, smoke, proximate, amino acids
